FAQ
I. Logistics & Logistics
-
How long will it take for my gear to arrive?
Most orders are prepared for transit within 1–2 business days. Once shipped, your gear typically arrives within 2–5 business days via our professional carriers (UPS, FedEx, or USPS). -
Why is there a specialized handling fee for some items?
We curate high-mass, professional-grade infrastructure. Items like our forged ironwork and large nesting sanctuaries require specialized handling and reinforced packaging to ensure they arrive without structural damage. -
Do you ship to Alaska or Hawaii?
At this time, we only serve the continental United States to ensure we can maintain our delivery and structural integrity standards.
II. Maintenance & Care
-
How do I clean my cedar or pine nesting sanctuaries?
Natural wood should be cleaned with a mild, unscented dish soap or a 50/50 water and white vinegar solution. Avoid harsh bleach, which can strip the wood’s natural protective oils. -
Will my ironwork rust over time?
Our infrastructure is treated with a professional-grade powder coat. While all ironwork naturally weathers, this finish is engineered to resist intense humidity and heavy snow for years of service. -
How often should I clean my feeders?
To maintain a healthy habitat and prevent the spread of avian illness, we recommend a thorough cleaning every two weeks.
III. Sanctuary Success
-
Why aren't birds using my new owl sanctuary?
Success often depends on the "Rule of 12." Ensure your house is mounted 12–20 feet high with a clear flight path and an entrance facing East or Southeast to provide natural thermal warmth. -
Should I stop feeding birds during the summer months?
Not at all. Summer is a high-energy season for nesting and raising fledglings. Consistent feeding helps local populations thrive when natural resources are stretched thin by heat. -
How do I keep my hydration station clear of algae?
Try the "Copper Shield" method: place a small piece of 99% pure copper in the basin. The natural ions will naturally slow organic buildup between your 2–3 day water refreshes.
IV. Wildlife & Conservation
- How do I attract Purple Martins to a new colony site? Purple Martins are colonial nesters that rely entirely on human-provided housing. Site your house in an open area at least 30–40 feet from trees, put it up before their arrival in early spring, and use decoys and recorded martin calls to attract scouts.
- When should I put up my bat house? Mount your bat house before spring emergence — ideally in late winter or early spring. South or southeast facing exposure with 6–8 hours of direct sunlight is critical for successful occupation.
- What is SREH and why does it matter? Starling Resistant Entrance Holes (SREH) are crescent-shaped openings that allow Purple Martins to enter while excluding invasive European Starlings — the primary nest competitor threatening martin colonies across North America.
