The Helle Mândra Les Stroud Fixed-Blade Knife proves that a capable outdoor knife does not need an oversized blade. Its compact 2.72-inch profile offers precise control for carving, food preparation, camp chores, and other detailed fieldwork while remaining easy to carry throughout the day.

Developed through Helle’s collaboration with outdoorsman Les Stroud, the Mândra combines a full-tang H3LS stainless steel blade with a sculpted curly birch handle. Although intentionally compact, the handle is shaped to remain secure in larger hands, where it naturally settles into a comfortable three-finger grip.

A fitted brown leather belt sheath and leather lanyard complete a field instrument designed to stay close without taking over your equipment.

The Mândra’s short handle is intentional, but it will not suit every user equally. Medium and larger hands should expect a three-finger grip rather than the full four-finger purchase offered by longer Helle models. That compact geometry improves portability and fine control, but users prioritizing extended carving sessions or heavy leverage may prefer a larger handle.

To preserve the hand-finished edge, place the broad Scandi bevel flat against a sharpening stone before making any angle adjustments. For light maintenance, a fine stone or leather strop may be enough to refresh the micro-edge without removing unnecessary steel. Keep the curly birch dry after use, treat it periodically with a suitable natural oil or wax, and allow a wet leather sheath to dry slowly at room temperature.
