For most owners, this is the easier-care option: it tolerates moisture and changing field conditions better than tool steel while remaining capable of demanding camp, bushcraft, and hunting work.
• Uddeholm Sleipner Tool Steel: Sleipner is a high-alloy tool steel hardened above 63 HRC for increased wear resistance and longer edge retention. It also offers a strong balance of toughness and resistance to chipping, making it well suited to heavier cutting and repeated field use. Because it is not stainless, it must be dried after use and periodically protected with a light coat of knife-safe oil.

Choose Sleipner tool steel when longer edge retention, increased blade mass, and heavier field performance matter more than corrosion resistance. Wipe the blade dry promptly after exposure to moisture, sap, food, or humidity, and apply a thin coat of knife-safe oil before storage. Do not store a damp blade inside the leather sheath.

Both versions use a Scandinavian grind. When sharpening, follow the established primary bevel rather than introducing a steep secondary edge unless you deliberately want to change the knife’s cutting geometry.
