The Experience

The Morakniv Garberg BlackBlade (C) with Survival Kit combines the full-tang strength of the standard Garberg with three practical field-maintenance tools carried directly on the sheath. Its 4.29-inch C100S carbon steel blade is built for carving, splitting kindling, preparing camp materials, and other demanding outdoor work without the additional length of the Garberg Grand.

A ferro rod, diamond sharpener, and reflective cord remain secured to the ambidextrous polymer sheath, keeping fire-starting and edge-maintenance essentials together with the knife. The black DLC-coated blade and textured black polyamide handle create a durable, low-reflection working tool made for stewards who prefer capable equipment without unnecessary bulk.

Scientific Engineering

  • Full-Tang Construction: The blade steel extends through the entire handle for dependable strength during carving, batoning, and controlled wood processing.
  • C100S Carbon Steel: German carbon steel provides toughness, reliable cutting performance, and straightforward field sharpening.
  • Black DLC Coating: The diamond-like carbon coating reduces reflections and provides some additional resistance to wear and corrosion.
  • Scandi Grind: The broad Scandinavian bevel supports controlled carving and gives the user a clearly defined sharpening surface.
  • Ferro-Rod-Compatible Spine: The ground spine can produce sparks from the included ferro rod without using the sharpened edge.
  • Integrated Diamond Sharpener: A compact sharpener mounted on the sheath supports edge maintenance away from the workbench.
  • Reflective Cord: The included cord improves visibility when locating the knife and sheath in dim conditions.
  • Exposed Rear Tang: The visible pommel section can assist with scraping, striking sparks, and controlled impact tasks.
  • Ambidextrous Polymer Sheath: The polypropylene sheath supports both right- and left-handed carry while keeping the survival accessories securely mounted.

Boutique & Conservation Values

  • Essential Tools Kept Together: Fire-starting, sharpening, and visibility equipment remain attached to the sheath rather than scattered through a pack.
  • Built for Continued Use: Full-tang construction and field-maintainable carbon steel support sharpening, upkeep, and long-term ownership.
  • Compact Working Strength: The standard Garberg provides substantial capability while remaining more maneuverable than the longer Grand model.
  • Purposeful Material Selection: German carbon steel, a weather-resistant polymer handle, and a durable polypropylene sheath prioritize practical field performance.
  • Made in Mora: Manufactured in Mora, Sweden, using Morakniv’s established knife-making tradition.

Steward’s Insight

The survival-kit configuration is most valuable when you want a dependable knife, fire starter, and basic sharpening tool to remain together as one organized system. The reflective cord is a small detail, but it becomes genuinely useful when gear is set down near camp after sunset or among dark forest debris.

C100S carbon steel still requires care despite the DLC coating. Wipe the blade dry after use, apply a light coat of suitable oil before storage, and avoid leaving moisture trapped between the knife and sheath.

This knife is ideal for: medium to large hands | bushcraft and wood processing | fire preparation | extended camp use | customers who prefer an integrated field kit
