The Experience
The Morakniv Garberg Grand BlackBlade (C) Bushcraft Knife takes the proven Garberg platform and gives it more reach, leverage, and working capacity. Its 5.59-inch carbon steel blade is built for demanding outdoor jobs such as splitting kindling, carving stakes, cutting branches, preparing camp materials, and handling heavier property work where a smaller field knife begins to feel limited.
A dark brown textured polymer handle provides a secure grip in wet or cold conditions, while the black DLC-coated blade and matching leather sheath give the knife a purposeful, refined appearance. At just over ten inches in knife length, the Garberg Grand remains manageable on the belt while delivering the strength expected from a large full-tang bushcraft knife.
Scientific Engineering
- Extended Bushcraft Blade: The 5.59-inch blade provides added reach and leverage for heavier cutting, carving, wood processing, and shelter-building tasks.
- C100S Carbon Steel: German carbon steel offers dependable toughness, strong cutting performance, and straightforward field sharpening.
- Black DLC Coating: The diamond-like carbon coating reduces glare and provides added resistance to wear and corrosion.
- Full-Tang Construction: The blade steel extends through the entire handle for strength, balance, and stability during demanding work.
- Exposed Rear Tang: The extended pommel section can assist with batoning, scraping fine tinder, and striking sparks.
- Scandi Grind: The broad Scandinavian bevel supports controlled carving, wood processing, and practical field sharpening.
- Ferro-Rod-Compatible Spine: The ground spine can produce sparks from a fire steel without requiring the sharpened edge.
- All-Weather Grip: The ergonomic polyamide handle uses a Dala-inspired friction pattern and finger guard for secure control.
- Vegetable-Tanned Leather Sheath: The dark brown European leather sheath provides secure right-hand belt carry and complements the knife’s substantial construction.
Boutique & Conservation Values
- Built for Long-Term Use: Full-tang construction, replaceable sharpening performance, and durable materials support years of dependable service.
- Purposeful Rather Than Overbuilt: The added blade length delivers meaningful working capacity without turning the knife into an oversized novelty.
- Field-Maintainable Carbon Steel: C100S steel can be restored with straightforward sharpening techniques rather than specialized equipment.
- European Material Sourcing: The knife combines German steel, European leather, and Swedish manufacturing.
- Made in Mora: Manufactured in Morakniv’s knife factory in Mora, Sweden, where the company’s knife-making tradition spans more than 130 years.
Steward’s Insight
The Garberg Grand is best suited to users who regularly process wood, prepare camp infrastructure, or tackle substantial outdoor work. The longer blade offers more leverage than the standard Garberg, but it also requires more deliberate control during fine carving and close-detail tasks.
Because C100S is carbon steel, wipe the blade dry after use and apply a light coat of suitable oil before storage. The DLC coating adds protection, but it does not eliminate the maintenance carbon steel requires. Store the knife outside the leather sheath when it will remain unused for an extended period, particularly in humid conditions.
This knife is ideal for: medium to large hands | advanced bushcraft | splitting kindling and processing wood | shelter and camp preparation | demanding property and field work
