The Experience
The Morakniv Garberg (S) delivers full-tang strength in a compact, manageable bushcraft platform built for carving, splitting kindling, cutting branches, shelter work, and demanding property tasks. Its 4.29-inch 14C28N stainless steel blade offers the control of the standard Garberg with greater corrosion resistance and a more forgiving maintenance routine than carbon steel.
The textured polyamide handle uses Morakniv’s Dala-pattern friction grip for secure handling in wet and cold conditions. Choose from Black, Green, or Dala Red, each paired with a coordinating ambidextrous polypropylene sheath. The construction and specifications remain the same across all three variants; only the handle and sheath colors change.
Scientific Engineering
- Full-Tang Construction: The blade steel runs through the entire handle for stability during carving, batoning, and controlled wood processing.
- 14C28N Swedish Stainless Steel: Alleima stainless steel provides strong corrosion resistance, dependable edge retention, and lower-maintenance field performance.
- Cryogenically Treated Steel: The blade is annealed, hardened, and cryo-treated to a nominal 58 HRC.
- Scandi Grind: The broad Scandinavian bevel supports controlled carving and straightforward resharpening.
- Ferro-Rod-Compatible Spine: The ground spine can strike a ferro rod without using the sharpened edge.
- Exposed Rear Tang: The rear tang can assist with scraping, spark striking, and controlled batoning.
- Stiff 3.2 mm Blade: The blade thickness provides the rigidity needed for demanding outdoor work.
- Dala-Pattern Grip: The molded polyamide handle and integrated finger guard support secure control in wet, cold, or gloved conditions.
- Ambidextrous Polymer Sheath: The polypropylene sheath accommodates right- or left-handed carry and includes a belt loop.
Boutique & Conservation Values
- Three Coordinated Colorways: Black offers a restrained presentation, Green provides a traditional field look, and Dala Red connects visually to Morakniv’s Swedish heritage.
- Lower-Maintenance Ownership: Stainless steel is well suited to humid conditions, wet-weather use, and customers who prefer less frequent blade care.
- Built for Continued Use: Full-tang construction and a resharpenable Scandi grind support long-term ownership.
- Compact Working Strength: The standard Garberg provides substantial capability without the added reach and bulk of the Grand.
- Made in Mora: Manufactured in Mora, Sweden, within Morakniv’s long-established knife-making tradition.
Steward’s Insight
The Garberg (S) is the better choice for stewards who want the strength of the Garberg platform without the maintenance demands of carbon steel. Its 4.29-inch blade remains easy to control during carving and close camp work while retaining enough rigidity for controlled batoning and heavier material preparation.
Stainless steel is forgiving, not maintenance-free. Clean and dry the blade after use, particularly after exposure to moisture, food, or sap, and avoid storing it wet inside the sheath.
This knife is ideal for: medium to large hands | all-weather bushcraft | carving and camp preparation | controlled batoning | property and field work
