The Experience
The most efficient pollinator in North America doesn't live in a hive, doesn't make honey, and doesn't sting. It lives alone, works tirelessly, and outperforms the honeybee by a factor of sixty to one. The mason bee is the quiet engine behind productive gardens and thriving ecosystems — and the JCS Wildlife Poly Pollinator is the infrastructure that brings them to yours.
Handcrafted in Southern Indiana from recycled poly lumber and routed charred pine panels, this purpose-built mason bee house is engineered around the biology of its occupants. The natural scent of charred pine is a proven attractant — mason bees locate nesting sites by scent as much as by sight, and the eight removable charred pine panels inside this house give them exactly what they're searching for. Mount it facing east or southeast at three to five feet above ground before temperatures reach 55°F in spring, and the bees will find it on their own.
Unlike decorative bee hotels that prioritize appearance over function, the Poly Pollinator is built for the serious steward. The recycled poly lumber exterior will not crack, split, fade, or stain under normal weather exposure. The removable panel system makes fall cleaning and cocoon harvesting straightforward — a critical step in maintaining a healthy, growing mason bee population season after season. Stainless steel screws, a locking block for easy panel removal, and included mounting hardware complete a house that's as functional as it is purposeful.
One female mason bee is the pollination equivalent of one hundred honeybees. Six mason bees can pollinate an entire fruit tree. This isn't an accessory — it's an investment in the ecological productivity of your property.
Scientific Engineering
- Charred Pine Panel Attractant: Eight removable routed charred pine panels line the interior nesting chambers — the natural scent of charred pine is a proven mason bee attractant, drawing occupants by scent as well as sight. Panels are sized to accommodate mason, orchard, leafcutter, aphid, and carpenter bee species.
- Removable Panel System: All eight interior panels remove cleanly via an easy locking block mechanism — enabling thorough fall cleaning, cocoon inspection, and cocoon harvesting without disassembling the house or disturbing the exterior structure.
- Recycled Poly Lumber Construction: The exterior body is constructed from recycled poly lumber — a high-density material manufactured from post-consumer recycled plastic. Structurally resistant to moisture, UV radiation, temperature cycling, and biological decay. Guaranteed not to crack, split, fade, or stain under normal weather exposure. No painting, staining, or seasonal treatment required.
- Stainless Steel Hardware: All fasteners are stainless steel — corrosion-resistant and built for permanent outdoor installation without rust or structural compromise over time.
- Included Mounting Hardware: Hardware for post or building mounting is included. Orient the house facing east or southeast to allow morning sun to warm the nesting chambers — a critical factor in mason bee emergence timing and nesting success.
- Multi-Species Compatibility: Designed to attract and house mason bees, orchard bees, leafcutter bees, aphid bees, and carpenter bees — supporting a broader native pollinator community beyond a single target species.
Boutique & Conservation Values
- The Pollination Imperative: Mason bees are among the most efficient native pollinators on the continent — a single female is the pollination equivalent of approximately 100 honeybees, and six mason bees can pollinate an entire fruit tree. As honeybee populations face increasing pressure from habitat loss, pesticide exposure, and disease, native solitary bees like the mason bee represent the most resilient and accessible path to sustained garden and orchard productivity. Providing quality nesting habitat is one of the most meaningful contributions a property steward can make to local pollinator health.
- A Living Conservation Tool: Unlike passive garden décor, the Poly Pollinator actively supports a native species population on your property — with each successful nesting season producing a new generation of mason bees that return the following spring. The removable panel system enables the kind of hands-on stewardship that turns casual observers into active participants in pollinator conservation.
